Refuge.

"Whoever goes to the LORD for safety, whoever remains under the protection of the Almighty, can say to him 'You are my defender and protector. You are my God; in you I trust'" - Psalm 91:1-2 GNT

Where do we find refuge? Where is it that we feel safe?

The psalmist speaks of finding refuge in God, the One whose enormous shadow shelters and covers us and keeps us from harm. Outside of the bigness and strength of God, we have no reason to find safety, no reason to trust because He would then have no capacity to protect us.

But He is, and He does. And He does it well.

In a time of crisis, the value of safety increases and we are willing to pay almost anything to access that which will protect us from harm. And we must be sure that whatever we are paying top-dollar for is going to do a good job of keeping us safe.

But can it?

The confidence the psalmist speaks of is that in the safety of God the one who has chosen to remain develops the surety that God indeed is their defender and protector, their personal God.

But the currency is different, the safety he speaks of isn't something you can pay for, even as wealthy as you may be, but can only gain because of your proximity to the Father. There is no price to this type of safety, no monetary payment required.

The currency is different.

You already have all you need to enjoy the privilege of safety; it was given to you at your new birth, when you acknowledged God as your Father, when you took your place at the table of the family of God.

Lizzy Milani says "peace can't be delivered. It can only be lived into, and really, it can only be lived into while the world seems anything but peaceful."

And this holds true for safety, and the peace that comes with it; it will not be delivered to us, but will only be accessed when we choose to live into it.

The confidence to speak and move and live is a direct consequence of your, and my, ability to remain, to abide, to be found near.

So, Abide. Remain. Stay.

"You have made the LORD your defender, the Most High your protector, and so no disaster will strike you, no violence will come near your home" : 9 - 10
