Do you know that God is accessible anywhere?!
I'm sure many of you have heard that and know it, but speaking from personal experience we often forget it.
We don't always live knowingly in the Presence of our Lord- life gets in the way, we get hurt, God is quiet, things don't go our way and so we get a little sidetracked with ourselves.
The good part though, is that He is always there. Do you remember the story of Elijah when he was running away from Jezebel in 1 Kings 19? He ran for his life and sought out God and then God did the craziest things. First He sent a strong wind which tore apart mountains, then an earthquake, and then a fire, but God wasn't in any of those.
After all this God simply whispered to Elijah.
We so often expect God to give us direction or give us beautiful promises in the shape or form of a burning bush, a mighty wind or a moving mountain when all we really need to be doing is listening, quietly.
Being still doesn't always mean escaping to a quiet corner of your house or waiting until the kids have gone to school because God is always with us.
We can be in the middle of grocery shopping and realize that we haven't spoken to our Father at all the entire day, and you know what to do in that moment?
Sarah Young (Jesus Calling Devotional) says "simply bring your thoughts gently back to Me each time they wander. The quickest way to deriect your mind to me is to whisper My Name."
In those moments though, let's not expect the earth to tremble or an angel to appear (of course these things are possible and I don't discount them, but God doesn't usually respond to our prayers in that way), but let's rather listen expectantly for that quiet whisper that may wash over us as peace or stir our hearts and give us a new vision for the day.
"My soul, wait in silence for God only, For my hope is from Him." Psalm 62:5
"Listen to my voice in the morning, LORD. Each morning I bring my requests to you and wait expectantly." Psalm 5:3
"Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst?" 1 Corinthians 3:16
